Your choice of 3 FINISHES
Raw
Our most affordable option.
We cut the rope to size and send it straight to you untreated.
Great for enthusiasts who want to do the finishing themselves!
Finished
After cutting the ropes to size, we break them in across a ring to make them more pliable, as well as expose loose fibers. We then singe off all the loose fibers with an open flame. This helps reduce the rope “shedding” in the first few uses.
Then we treat the rope with conditioning oil, to make it feel softer on the skin. We then heat treat the rope so the oil soaks deep into the fibers. This deepens the natural hue of the rope to a golden luster.
Finally the ends are tied off with footrope knots, which are more secure and less bulky than the commonly used overhand knot.
Whipped
The premium option
Finished rope with tightly wrapped whipping instead of knotted ends. We leave the ends long so you can trim to your desired length.

Perfectly Sized Kits For Every Skill Level
Practice shibari for any length of time and you'll quickly encounter the following scenario:
1. You're almost finished tying a harness, but your rope is just a little too short.
3. If only you had a really short piece, then you could have attached that and finished the harness, with very little rope left over to figure out what to do with!
This happens so frequently, that coming up with ways to "burn" excess rope, is a shibari skill in and of itself. It's so common that most riggers will take a half length of rope and cut it in half, creating two quarter lengths, and keep them handy in their rope kits. For this reason, all our rope kits starting at level 2 include at least one quarter length rope.
Level 1 - Beginner Kit
2x Full Lengths, 1x Half Length
For people new to shibari. Enough rope to do most basic and intermediate harness. Even absolute beginners will encounter times when a shorter rope is useful, such as practicing single and double columns.
Level 3 - Journeyman Kit
6x Full Lengths, 2x Half Lengths, 1x Quarter Length
For people who are beginning to dabble in more advanced techniques. Enough rope for 2-3 harnesses, and 1-2 lengths left over for partials or simple static suspensions.
Level 5 - Master Kit
10x Full Lengths, 4x Half Lengths, 2x Quarter Lengths
For those who want to take their tying to new heights. Enough rope for 3-4 harnesses, with lines left over for dynamic suspensions, or for tying multiple partners.
2. You attach another length of rope and are able to finish the harness, but now you have to figure out what to do with all that leftover rope.
Level 2 - Apprentice Kit
4x Full Lengths, 1x Half Length, 1x Quarter Length
For people with a little more experience or ambition. Enough rope for more advanced harnesses, and a quarter length rope for clean finishes.
Level 4 - Expert Kit
8x Full Lengths, 4x Half Lengths, 2x Quarter Lengths
For the advanced or the ambitious practitioner. Enough rope to tie 2-3 harnesses and have lines left for dynamic suspensions, and enough smaller ropes for clean harnesses and extra spice like hair rope.
Why Jute?
Jute is the premiere choice for Shibari rope, valued for its unique traits.
Rope Material Comparison Chart
The preferred choice
Jute has an ideal combination of natural texture, creating "bite" for friction, and low elasticity, ensuring knots don't tighten up beyond where you set them. This combination of traits makes for rope that is easy to tie tight and secure knots and frictions, but also remains easy to untie afterwards.
Jute nurtures the atmosphere by absorbing large amounts of CO2 and releasing oxygen, purifying the air more effectively than trees. Jute supports renewable agriculture while meeting functional needs and promoting planetary health.
An Eco-Friendly Powerhouse
Jute is an eco-friendly fiber that decomposes naturally, avoiding environmental pollution and offering a sustainable alternative to synthetics. Its cultivation requires no chemical fertilizers or pesticides, and it matures in just 4–5 months, and production waste gets converted into fertilizer.
In contrast, our ropes are batch-processed with cold-pressed, fortified soybean oil, a cleaner, safer alternative. Though more expensive and time-intensive, this vegetable-based oil ensures skin-friendly, odor-free ropes while protecting workers and the environment. Choosing JBO-free ropes supports sustainability and promotes healthier production practices.
Jute Batching and Jute Batching Oil - aka JBO
Jute batching is essential for producing high quality rope, softening raw fibers with oil, water, and emulsifiers for spinning into yarn. Traditionally reliant on whale oil and in modern times using petroleum-based JBO, the process has faced criticism for exposing workers and consumer alike to this chemical. While JBO is cost-effective and speeds up production, it leaves a kerosene-like smell and poses health and environmental risks.
Over time, jute absorbs oils from the hands and skin, softening its feel and deepening its golden luster, creating a rope that feels softer with each use. This natural fiber has a low allergy incidence rate, which makes it a thoughtful choice for both beginners and experienced practitioners.
